Simple Guide to the FIG Code of Points 2001

The FIG Trampolining Technical Committee has now produced a new code of points (Set of rules) which will come into force in January 2001 for the next 4 years. They have advised that we should base our rules in GB on the FIG ones but also accept that we may add or change some of them.

We will keep as near to the International rules as we can so that our International performers, coaches and judges can transfer comfortably from BG rules to International rules without coming across many problems.

Some of the new rules do not suit the way we run our competitions and because of this we will use our own rules.

International Rule Changes and additions

The number in the margin refers to the rule number in the code of points. Unless it is stated otherwise, we will be adopting the rule as written. Changes and further comments about the rule is written in italics.

  1. Individual Competition

  2. Finals - A zero start for the finals, for individual and team finals. There will only be 8 individuals in a final for Worlds, Olympics, World Cups etc.

We will not be adopting these rules for the moment.

  3. Team Competition

  4. Team Finals - 5 teams of 3 compete an extra ‘Team Finals’ routine; all 3 scores to count; zero start final.

We will not be having a ‘team finals’ round. Our team rules will remain the same.

  5. Winners

  6. There is a change to way in which equally placed competitors are ranked during a competition. In the event of an equal placing the ranking it is based on the following:

After Preliminaries (Set & Vol) - Individual Competitions (FIG Code of Points 2001).

    1. Total Vol Mark (Including Tariff)
    2. Total Vol Form Mark (3 counting Judges - No tariff)
    3. Total Vol Form all 5 Judges
    4. Total Vol Form Highest 4 Judges
    5. Total Vol Form Highest 3 Judges
    6. Total Vol Form Highest 2 Judges
    7. The Highest Judges Form Mark in the Voluntary Routine
    8. There is no Tie Break after Sets, only after Set & Vols.

There is no provision in the new FIG Code of Points 2001 for Tie Breakers with all THREE Rounds to Count. The SWESCORE Program uses the existing Tie Break rules of the FIG Code of Points 2000.

Tie Break after Finals with all 3 Rounds to Count (FIG Code of Points 2000).

    9. The Best Vol Score in the Final Round (Including Tariff)
    10. The Competitor with the highest ranking after Set & Vol
    11. Tie Break - Finals - With Scores returned to Zero (FIG Code of Points 2001).

    12. Total Form Mark (3 counting Judges - No tariff) in the Final Routine
    13. Total Form Scores all 5 Judges in Final Routine
    14. Total Form Highest 4 Judges in the Final Routine
    15. Total Form Highest 3 Judges in the Final Routine
    16. Total Form Highest 2 Judges in the Final Routine
    17. The Highest Judges Form Mark in the Final Routine

    Team Competitions

(Set & Vol) - Team Competitions (FIG Code of Points 2001)
    1. Best 3 Total Vol Marks (including Tariff)
    2. Best 3 Total Set Marks
    3. Best Vol Totals
    4. Best Vol Total.
    5. Routines - Internationally, the set routine will have some compulsory elements (skills) in it and some ‘free elements’.
    6. Currently our Grade 2 U18/O18s groups and our Grade 1 U18/O18 and Mens/Ladies groups use this and will continue to do so.

    7. Dress for Performers - Men cannot wear gym trousers in black or any other deep dark colour.
    8. Competition Cards (Tariff Sheets) - Where a Compulsory routine is used with only certain required elements (As in 5 above). There will be a deduction of 0.1 (by each Execution judge) for each change in the order of skills performed in the compulsory. There will be a deduction of 1.0 (by each Execution judge) for each missing required element. (See also Rule 15) There will be a 1.0 deduction (by each execution judge) for each repeated skill in the routine.
    9. Note: it will no longer be a routine termination if there is a change to the compulsory routine e.g. if the skills are performed in an order different to that which is written.

Please note that this will only apply to our Grade 1 & 2 U18, O18 and Mens/Ladies competitions so don’t panic at the grade 3 – 6 competition, in this level of competition none of the above applies.

    10. Equipment - only refers to FIG norms, dimensions & tolerances. No distances of trampolines given however they are in the norms.
    11. Safety Requirements - Most of this section is removed & reference made to the FIG technical regulations. Height of hall: this section is removed, and now included under norms & tolerances.
    12. The new BG rules will keep the Safety requirements and there are no significant changes from what we have had in the past.

    13. Superior Jury & Jury of Appeal - (which replaces the arbitration jury) is replaced by the fig term Superior Jury. Reference then made to the FIG technical regulations.
    14. We are going to continue with an Arbitration Jury and Protests in the same way as before for another experimental year.

    15. Interruptions to a routine - Skills which land on 1 foot are no longer counted. Termination is at the skill prior to the 1-footed landing. There is also no longer a deduction for landing on one foot (0.3)

    16. Termination of a Routine - Landing on both feet on the tenth skill. The interpretation of this rule now states that the performer must reach the vertical position with his/her body when landing on both feet for this skill to count. If they land on the feet but never reach the vertical position and have to use hands to avoid falling over onto front or face or they fall over onto seat or back as soon as they hit the bed the skill will not be counted. When this occurs, no deduction for the fall will be given.
    17. Scoring - Tariff is now called the ‘A’ score and Execution now called ‘B’ score
    18. 0.1 bonus is given per completed somersault (each somersault is worth 0.5 instead of 0.4)

Single somersaults without twist performed in pike or straight position receive an additional 0.1 (same as currently used)

Multiple somersaults of 720º or more (doubles +), with or without twist, executed in the straight or pike position will receive an additional 0.2 points. (Fliffis will get 0.2, Triffis will also get 0.2 )

Synchro trampolining now only has 4 Execution judges, 2 per trampoline, the marks are put together and the highest and lowest are deducted, the remaining scores are added to give the ‘B’ score. (It is possible that the counting Execution scores will both be from the same trampoline.)

The Synchro score is to be determined by dropping the high & the low scores of the 3 synchro judges and doubling the mark (as we do now).

    19. Competition Jury - In synchronised trampolining Judges 1 & 3 look at bed 1 , Judges 2 & 4 look at bed 2. There is no assistant difficulty judge in synchro. This is to be done by the assistant Chair of Judges panel. The Superior Judge is now called the Chair of the Judges Panel
    20. Duties of Chair of Judges Panel - (Additional duties) Decide if there is an obvious numerical error in the scores. I.e. If the tariff judges have perhaps made an error.
    21. Duties of the Judge for Execution - Changes to deductions at the end of the routine. There is no longer a specific deduction for landing on only 1 foot
    22. The deduction for falling onto knees or hands/knees has increased to 0.6, same as for seat, front or back (it was 0.5)

TOUCHING springs, pads, frame or end deck is now 0.6 (it was 0.7, landing on the end deck was 0.8)

LANDING / FALLING on springs, pads, frame, spotter mat or end deck is now 0.8 (was 0.7 for spotter mat). They have differentiated between touching & landing/falling on.

Additional deductions given by Chair of the Judges Panel :

      • If a routine is interrupted the deduction for lack of stability still applies after the performer has stopped bouncing (either the element or straight jump/out bounce)
      • Changed elements in the compulsory routine 0.1 (U18/O18, Mens & Ladies Grade 1 & 2 only)
      • Missing elements in the compulsory routine is 1.0 (U18/O18, Mens & Ladies Grade 1 & 2 only)
      • Repetition of a skill in the compulsory routine is 1.0 (U18/O18, Mens & Ladies Grade 1& 2 only)
    23. Duties of Assistant Chair of Judges Panel - In Synchro competitions, performs the duties of the Assistant DD judge (see if both trampolines did the same skill)
