First Steps 6 - Routines

A routine is a sequence of 10 moves, with no duplicates, performed without break or hesitation. Routines are required to be performed at competions which are covered in Step 8.

At competition you can practice your routine during the warm up. When your actually competing and the Superior Judge says go you are allowed upto 1 minute straight bouncing before performing the first move of your routine. This is to allow you to compose yourself. Your first move is the first bounce that is not a straight jump. Each time you touch the bed is another move done until you have completed your 10 moves and then you are allowed 1, and only 1, out bounce.

No duplicates means you cannot perform the same move more than once in a routine. Every time you touch the bed is another move so swivel hips is actually 3 moves, 1) seat drop (bump), 2) half twist to seat (bump) and 3) to feet (hurrah!). Yes, "to feet" is a move and so is "to front", "to seat" and "to back" but any other part of the body means you've fallen!

As far as Judges are concerned your routine has two main elements, form and difficulty (tariff). A routine may be easy or difficult, as the table below illustrates, but form is judged the same whether you're world class or beginners class. Form is how well the routine is performed and is marked out of 10.
